Dementia Care and support

Dementia is an umbrella term for a range of progressive neurological disorders that affect cognitive functions, such as memory, thinking, reasoning, and the ability to perform everyday activities. It is not a specific disease but rather a collection of symptoms caused by various underlying conditions.

Key  symptoms:

  • Memory Loss: Difficulty recalling recent events, names, or information.
  • Cognitive Impairment: Challenges with thinking, reasoning, problem-solving, and decision-making.
  • Behavioral Changes: Altered behavior or personality changes, such as increased agitation, confusion, or withdrawal.
  • Language Difficulties: Problems with finding the right words, following conversations, or understanding written and spoken language.
  • Disorientation: Confusion about time, place, or identity.

Treatment:

Currently, there is no cure for dementia, but treatments can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life. These may include medications to address cognitive symptoms or behavioral issues, and cognitive therapy.
